What Is Sweat On Leather?
Chair Back Caused By A Sweating Head
Where you rest your arm or head, sweat secreted can break down the leather and cause staining.
This will remove the colour and cause a dark patch to appear where the sweat has soaked into the leather.
Sweat Marks On Arms
Protection for leather is essential and this is where most issues come from with sweat attacking the surface coating and breaking it down.
With most skins being painted with pigments which are water based, when moisture gets in contact with the paint it can start to cause a migration, this can then remove the clear coat PU lacquer that’s applied to provide protection and then remove the painted surface leaving a dark patch as the leather soaks up the sweat.
If these marks are not dealt with as soon as you see them the damage they become worse and cause the leather to break down and holes can start to appear, it can also cause the leather to shred fully.
Colour can be restored to these areas and the stains removed with gel degreases, you would first of all carry out a leather prep stage, followed by a grease removal process, this would then be wiped down with alcohol cleaner and then new pigment colour can be applied by sponge or spray application.
After the colour has been applied a new coating of PU lacquer can be applied to seal in the new colour and this can then be protected with protection cream to help avoid this from happening again in the future.
Leather Shredded By Sweat
Damage can be minor or major like the above if left.
Sweat Marks
Colour removed down to the bear skin caused by sweat on the surface and not removed, if this had been protected this could have been avoided.
