What Is Kidskin Leather?

Kidskin leather is traditionally made from small goats or kids, it’s super soft and very luxurious, used mainly for gloves, due to it being ultra-soft and extremely thin.
Chicken skin or Hen skin is made into various products look at this link. You may think chicken leather? This doesn’t actually mean it’s chicken skin; it refers to leather from sheep or goats and has a whitish colour. But chicken legs and feet are used to make leather, they are miniature skins as you could imagine.
Kidskin and Calfskin are very similar, calfskin is that of a young cow / calf. This skin is also ultra-thin and very velvety to the touch.

Kidskin is used for the gloving industry as well as the manufacture of shoes and some slippers are made from kidskin.
Kidskins can come in many forms of finishes, from veg tanned, Aniline, Semi Aniline and Crust versions.

Semi Aniline is the most common versions of tanned hides from kidskin, semi aniline is dyed through with aniline dyes and then a protected layer is applied that’s a clear coat lacquer with a mixture of paints to give an even coating to the kidskin when finished ready for sale.
Kidskin is ultra-thin almost like paper ranging from 0.02mm thick to 1.10mm thickness as you can see from this leather measuring gauge this kidskin is just 0.02mm thickness.
