What is Tahara Leather?
Tahara leather is a synthetic material, it’s ultrasoft and feels extremely luxurious. To the person on the street that doesn’t know leather, you can easily be fooled if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
Due to the fact it has leather in its name, all you hear is leather, car manufacturers should know better not to try to fool the public with fake materials.
It’s far from leather, so don’t be fooled with this material when looking at buying cars.
There are many ways you can identify leather below, we have shown you a video that will help you, this is just one way.
Tahara is fake, it’s a coated material and the coating is a coloured coating sheet with a grain impression in it, that’s bonded to the materials below. If this becomes damaged it’s a very delicate material to repair as doing a prep stage is dangerous as it’s most likely going to cause more damage than good, if you do happen to remove the painted coating on the surface the grain will come with it and then you have a bigger problem as your left with a smooth surface with no grain patterns visible.
Tahara has a different, meaning in religion as it’s an Islam meaning for pure. But something fake cannot be classed as pure as it’s not original, it’s also using two different names synthetic and leather. It’s either leather or a synthetic material it can’t use both names.
Taking care of synthetic tahara materials are said to be easier than looking after leather, but in reality, they don’t last as long as leather, It can’t be repaired either thus making it less eco-friendly than it claims as it requires more replacements during a 100 year period than a traditional leather skin than with proper care can last 100 years or more whereas tahara being fake will require replacement and it’s not biodegradable.
Due to the fake skins not having a proper grain this means that dirt does not get embedded into the grain of the synthetic material so year you could say it’s easier to clean, but then you can take a smooth leather and it will just as easily wipe clean like a fake material would with no grain pattern. Give a fake material a grain that’s the same as a leather hide then you will face the same issues of dirt getting embedded into the grain pattern making it more difficult to clean.
Synthetic materials last nowhere near as long as genuine leather does, so requires more replacement during a lifetime and then we have the added issues of the decomposing of the synthetic material!!
Being a synthetic coating, you have to be careful on the types of cleaners you use and don’t use protective matts as they transfer dye to the synthetic material making them almost impossible to remove the marks they leave behind. Even after cleaning with specialist ink and stain removers, they appear to be removed, but suddenly appear once again over time.
Tahara leather is what’s used in Lexus cars and is also known as Nuluxe
Keeping this type of fake material clean is just the same as leather, it doesn’t require specialist products as some companies claim, that you need synthetic leather cleaners, vegan leather cleaner or artificial leather cleaner, it’s all a myth to sell products, when all you need is a standard good quality leather cleaner.
Do not use solvents on anything that is classed as vegan leather, synthetic leather or artificial leather as this can damage the surface with a lot of these modern fake materials. Colour can be removed to look like leather making it harder for leading experts to tell them apart, but very simple tests can be done as shown in the video above to help you.
When the surface starts to break down on artificial leathers the grain is what’s coming with it at the same time, this leaves behind a fabric like material that’s all very fibrous, genuine leather does not act this way and does not have a fabric within the material make up. Leather is a natural biodegradable product whereas fake materials are basically plastics creating massive issues for our planet and environment, adding more harmful gases into the air than any leather could possibly ever add. Co2 from leather lasts around 100 years in our atmosphere whereas Co2 from plastics lasts over 1,000 years in our atmosphere, the solution is a simple one, stop using plastics and use more leather.
