Water Buffalo leather structure is different to that of normal bovine animals its not as interwoven as normal bovine hides.
Buffalo leather is predominantly sold as an aniline leather, its very well known in the Ford trucks as Buffalo Ranch Leather.
Water Buffalo leather is used in a wide range of sectors, from car interiors to leather furniture, handbags, leather jackets and boot leathers.
Compared to normal leathers the water buffalo hides have a very large pores and with the hides being aniline finish this is very visible on the surface of the hide.
There are around 150 million water buffalo in the world today and approximately 74 species, more people depend on them than any other domestic animal, they are used in climates for farming and carry goods. Only a small number of wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee) remain in the world. There are less than 4,000 wild buffalo left and around 3,000 of these live in India.

Water buffalo skins has a very coarse texture to its hides and the hair follicles are very visible, the hair follicles are extremely large and very pronounced on the skins once tanned.
