What Are Leather Watch Straps?
Leather Watch Strap
Leather watch straps are what is used to hold a watch on someone wrist.
Leather straps are made of cow hide and calf skin. Calf skin is used as the grain is much tighter and softer on the wrist.
But watch straps can be made from many different types of leather hides, including crocodile and alligator skins on the more exotic side of living.
Another common version is imitation croc skin which is cow hide just embossed with a print of a croc.
Calf Skin is the most common as it’s soft and the grain being very tight makes it much more resilient to wear and tear from sweat on the wrist.
An average price for a watch strap is around £40, but straps can cost many hundreds and keeping an exclusive watch in great shape, it just adds to the value of the watch. Specialist cleaning and care kits can always be purchased for leather straps to keep them clean and protected.
As well as the leather straps, metal parts can also be cleaned and polished to remove scratches and marks.
Leather straps can be restored and re coloured where required with leather colourants and sealed again with PU lacquers.
